(June 19, 2014) – A California golden retriever that was lost for 20 months has been returned to her family.

Murphy, a golden retriever, disappeared in the Tahoe National Forest. A family stumbled across her during a camping trip about five miles from where the dog was last seen.

“(We) just kinda walked over and grabbed her by the scruff of the neck until we could get a leash on her,” Janice Watkins told FOX40 in Sacramento.

Watkins’ husband described Murphy as “very timid” but “very sweet.”

Murphy’s family said they were “shocked and amazed” to find out Murphy had survived for so long. They’d been looking for her since October 2012. Murphy reunited with her family on Father’s Day.
