Hikers plunge 25 feet into water after New Zealand bridge collapses

LAKE WAIKAREMOANA, New Zealand (Oct. 9, 2015) – French tourists plunged more than 25 feet into water after a suspension bridge collapsed.

Video of the Sept. 3 incident appeared on YouTube this week. According to the New Zealand Herald, the four tourists were crossing a bridge over New Zealand’s Lake Waikaremoana when it happened.

The bridge is designed to accommodate 10 people. Investigators said a support cable “released” and were trying figure out exactly why it happened.

Despite the fall, no one was seriously hurt.
