(March 21)—The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a recall for canopies for children’s beds sold at IKEA stores due to strangulation hazards.
IKEA said there have been nine reports worldwide of children getting entangled in the bed canopies. One incident that occurred in the U.S. involved a 7-month-old girl who pulled the canopy’s fabric into her crib and wrapped it around her neck several times.
The canopies being recalled were exclusively sold at IKEA stores nationwide and online from August 1996 through March 2014. Approximately 255,000 were sold in the U.S., 7,000 in Canada and 2.6 million worldwide.
