(Dec. 23, 2014) – Keurig recalled more than seven million coffee brewing machines after receiving reports about burns.
The Keurig Mini Plus Brewing System can overheat and spray during brewing, causing the potential for burns, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Keurig received about 200 reports of hot liquid escaping during the brewing process. There were 90 burn-related injuries reported.
The recalled models were available in several different colors (including black, red, white, cobalt blue, aqua blue, purple, platinum, emerald, yellow, orchid, bayberry, mauve and Poinciana). They have an ID number starting with “31” printed on the bottom followed by a range of numbers.
They were sold in-store and online at multiple retailers including Kmart, Kohl’s, Target and Walmart from December 2009 through December 2014.
Keurig said the brewer can still be used, although customers should avoid brewing more than two cups in quick succession.
Customers should contact Keurig for a free repair by calling (844) 255-7886. For more information about the recall, visit Keurig’s website.
