TACOMA, Wash. (Jan. 14, 2015) – Did they do the right thing?

Some neighbors took the law into their own hands by rescuing a dog they believed was neglected and abused, according to KCPQ.

A neighbor took a picture in which the dog, a lab mix named Kiki, looked neglected and malnourished. Those photos spread on Facebook. Later, construction workers reported seeing four people cut the dog’s chain and walk off with Kiki in tow.

Kiki ended up at the Humane Society on Monday afternoon. The dog isn’t at the shelter anymore, and it’s believed her owner picked her up. Animal Control said it couldn’t keep the dog without a warrant or evidence of abuse.

“The dog was clearly starving and in really bad shape so we got a group of us and go over there,” said Autumn Niesz-Ramos, who admitted to taking Kiki.

“The dog could barely stand up she was so weak,” said Niesz-Ramos. “She was shaking, she was so cold.”

The case remains under investigation.
