FRANKLIN, Ind – Bullets flew through a Franklin apartment early Thursday morning, just blocks away from Franklin College.
Franklin Police are actively looking for tips in the incident, violence they acknowledge is uncommon in the area. The woman who lives at the apartment said she’s afraid the shooter or shooters could come back.
“Whoever was shooting was shooting to kill, like it was holes everywhere,” said Caprice Rowe.
Rowe calls the second floor apartment in the 700 block of East Jefferson in Franklin home, but she said she won’t anymore.
“It won’t be too much longer that we are staying here,” she said.
It was around midnight Thursday when Rowe said she, her boyfriend, and her sister were in bed.
“We heard glass. I thought a plate from our dish rack had fallen into the sink,” she said.
But she thought wrong. When they turned the lights on, she said they saw holes where bullets had traveled through the wall.
We counted at least a dozen bullet holes on the exterior of the home.
A police report indicated three bullets were found in the kitchen floor, and two rounds were stuck in the door. Investigators found shell casings from two different types of handguns in a nearby alley. A police dog came to the scene but didn’t yield leads.
Rowe said she and her boyfriend don’t have any enemies.
“We don’t have the slightest clue as to who could’ve done this or why,” said Rowe.
Franklin Police said it doesn’t appear to be a random act of violence, and they have no reason to believe neighbors are in danger.
Caprice Rowe said she wants the suspect or suspects caught fast before they find their way back again.
“Who’s to say the next time, if they were to do it a next time, it won’t be deadly,” she said.
Franklin Police said any details about a possible getaway vehicle are general at best. If you know anything, police urge you to call their tip line at (317) 346-1100.
