Two new faces, guards C.J. Miles and Rodney Stuckey, made their Pacers debut in the starting line-up Tuesday night, and they looked to have no problem fitting in with the blue and gold.
The new guards combined for 16 points, helping Indiana defeat the Minnesota Timberwolves 103-90 in the preseason opener for the 2014-15 season. And they weren’t alone in making strong debuts in Pacers colors. Forward Shayne Winnington had 11 points while Damjen Rudez finished with eight, and a strong third quarter for the Pacers pushed them past Minnesota with little to no problems.
Perhaps the most promising thing that came out of the exhibition was the strong play of guard George Hill. It is believed with Paul George out for the season, Hill will have to be more aggressive on the offensive end, and he did just that going 6-9 for 17 points and 7 assists in just 20 minutes of play.
The Pacers second half spoiled the debut of the number-one pick of the 2014 NBA Draft, as Andrew Wiggins finished with 18 points on 4-11 shooting. Former Purdue Boilermaker Robbie Hummel came off the bench for the Timberwolves scoring two points and collecting five rebounds.
Indiana continues their preseason play on Friday when they host the Orlando Magic.
