INDIANAPOLIS (Oct. 17, 2013) – A new charter school will open on the east side next school year.

The Indianapolis Charter School Board unanimously approved Mayor Greg Ballard’s recommendation for a new K-4 elementary school run by KIPP Indianapolis. The new school will go on the east side, although a specific location has not yet been finalized.

KIPP already operates a high-performing middle school in the Avondale-Meadows neighborhood. KIPP Indianapolis College Preparatory opened in 2003 and serves 300 students in grades 5-8. It received an “A” grade from the Indiana Department of Education in 2012 and earned “Reward School” honors from the IDOE for making significant progress with low-income students.
