Officer punched downtown

An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer was punched in the face by a suspect, while investigating an assault case Saturday afternoon.

Officer Mark Barnett, was flagged down near Delaware and Washington streets downtown around 4 p.m., by a female who was physically assaulted and punched by a man.

The suspect was located a short distance away and the officer questioned the man about the assault.

While the officer was questioning the suspect, 29 year-0ld Nathaniel Sconiers, punched Officer Barnett in the face.

The officer used his stun gun to subdue the suspect.

Officer Barnett was taken to Wishard hospital to be checked out.
