(May 12, 2014) He may not have nine lives, but this Chihuahua has a new lease on his only one.

A California Highway Patrol officer rescued this pup shivering on the median of a busy interstate on Friday.

This photo shared by the California Highway Patrol shows an officer luring the tiny Chihuahua to safety with a treat after he stopped his motorcycle along Interstate 680.

The CHP Contra Costa division tweeted, “This little dog needed some help off  I-680 freeway today. We’re glad he’s safe. #CHP #Safe #Dog #DogTreats”

It’s unclear how he made it onto the center divide , but now he’s safe at a shelter, waiting for a forever home.
