Officials release names of five people injured in explosion at Crane

CRANE – The cause of the explosion that injured five people at the Crane Army Ammunition Activities pyrotechnics facility remains under investigation.

The explosion happened around 5:40 p.m. Thursday during what officials characterized as cleanup operations.

Officials at CAAA have released the names of the five people hurt:Steve Reed, Springville

  • Connie Alsman, Bloomfield
  • Janet Shahat, Washington
  • Dana Roach, Bloomfield
  • Jason O’Conner, Bloomfield

The employees went to Bloomington Hospital for examination and observation. They were released Thursday evening.

CAAA was established in 1977 and is a subordinate of the Joint Munitions Command. It maintains ordnance professionals and infrastructure to store, ship, produce, renovate and demilitarize conventional ammunition, missiles and related components.
