UNION MILLS – Police have identified the man killed when a grain elevator exploded Monday afternoon in the LaPorte County town of Union Mills.

He was James Swank, 66, of Union Mills.

LaPorte County police say evidence shows Swank was on top of a tower when a possible grain dust explosion occurred and knocked him off the tower.

Police say Swank fell about 175 feet.

Sheriff’s Deputy Neil Lachmund says all other people are accounted for after the blast shortly before 1:30 p.m. CST at the Union Mills Co-Op.

Lachmund says two other people were checked for injuries.
