Police identify person killed in Indianapolis north side shooting

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Aug. 22, 2015)--One person is dead following a shooting on the city's north side Saturday night.

Police and medics were called to the 3500 block of North Illinois Street around 9:15 p.m on reports of shots fired.

When police arrived on scene they found an adult male with multiple gunshot wounds to the lower body.

EMS pronounced him dead on the scene. He was later identified as 38-year-old Nakia Smith of Indianapolis

Investigators are speaking with witnesses and gathering information. So far witnesses say two males approached the victim, who was riding his bike, when shots were fired. The suspects then fled in an unknown direction.
