Two people killed after two overnight shooting in Indianapolis near Lafayette Square Mall

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (August 22, 2015) – Just after 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, Indianapolis Metropolitan police were dispatched to the 3800 block of Lafayette Road on a call of shots fired. They arrived at the Phillips 66 gas station near Lafayette Square Mall and found a group of people congregated there. The group fled the scene when they saw officers.

When officers pulled in, they found an adult male underneath of a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police found a woman inside the vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was transported to the hospital but died shortly after arrival.

The victims have been identified as Tamara Sword, 32, and Joshua Riggins, 28, both from Indianapolis.

Several vehicles sustained gunshot damage, but no one else was injured.

Detectives canvassed the area and an investigation is underway. Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS.

Another shooting happened earlier in the night. Police say someone walked to the firehouse in the 4100 block of Carrollton Ave. and told firefighters they found someone shot. Authorities picked the person up and took them to the hospital in critical condition.
