One person killed in Wayne County crash involving horse-and-buggy

ECONOMY, Ind. – Police in Wayne County say one person is dead after a crash involving an Amish horse-and-buggy.

Police were called to the intersection of US 35 and Newman Road, just south of Economy, arounf 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

When they arrived on scene, officers say they found a crash involving three vehicles and a buggy.

According to officers, the buggy was headed northbound on US 35 with no lights on when a north bound Ford car struck the rear of the buggy.

The impact pushed the buggy into the southbound lane of US 35, where it was sideswiped by a southbound Buick. Police say during that collision, a passenger in the buggy was ejected onto the road where he was struck by a northbound Pontiac.

The victim, identified as 17-year-old Jonas Beiler of Economy, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, there were no other injuries reported in this crash.
