SHELBY COUNTY (Feb. 20, 2015) – A crash involving a semi truck has closed an eastbound lane on I-74 in Shelby County.

It happened near mile marker 109. Indiana State Police said the crash involved two vehicles–a 2012 Freightliner and a 2011 Honda passenger car. The truck was carrying Crisco spray and dumped some of its cargo on the road when it struck yellow sand containers and the bridge support on the Brandywine overpass.

The driver of the car, which was registered in Ohio, was taken to an area hospital for observation. Troopers at the crash scene said there appeared to be no major injuries. An INDOT bridge inspector was due on-site to inspect the overpass.

The eastbound right lane of I-74 is now open. The left lane is closed at the crash scene and will remain closed while the spilled load is cleaned up.

State police said the crash remained under investigation. Drivers should avoid the area because cleanup could take several hours.
