INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A pedestrian died on the east side Monday after being struck by two vehicles, one of which was an IndyGo bus.

It happened at the intersection of 34th and Dequincy streets shortly before 7 p.m., according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Investigators believe 22-year-old Immanuela Irving was walking along the street when she stepped out into the path of an IndyGo bus. The bus then clipped her and she went into the other lane, where a second vehicle ran over her, according to police. Medics pronounced Irving  dead at the scene.

Officers believe the second vehicle was the one that delivered the fatal blow. That vehicle fled after the crash. Police later said they were looking for a green Jeep Liberty between model year 2002 and 2007.

“When traffic’s this heavy and it’s dark, you’ve got to pretty much walk in the snow and stay out of the way,” said Capt. Robert Trout. “It’s one of those, you can’t take the risk. If you’re going to be out in the dark, make sure you’re wearing something visible.”
