Homicide investigation underway after man found shot to death on east side

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — A shooting on the city’s east side is being investigated as a homicide, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD).

Officers were called to the 5200 block of East 20th Street, East of Emerson Avenue, around 3:45 p.m.

IMPD said officers arrived at the scene and found an adult man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

EMS pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Detectives arrived and began canvassing the area with forensic teams identifying and collecting potential evidence.

The coroner’s office is determining the exact cause and manner of death and release the identity of the victim after proper notifications to next of kin have been made.
