INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Indianapolis Metropolitan are investigating a fatal shooting on the near east side.

Dispatchers said the shooting was reported around 5 a.m. in the 900 block of Tecumseh Street.

The male victim was shot multiple times, police said, and neighbors reported hearing several gunshots. A suspect was seen running away from the scene, but police didn’t release a description. Officers arrived to find the man lying in the street with gunshot wounds.

Major Richard Riddle with IMPD said the shooting marks the city’s 107th murder so far in 2016. Riddle was unsure if there were any eyewitnesses to the shooting, but he’s hopeful neighbors may have information that could help the investigation.

“We don’t have much to go on. We don’t really know a lot of the circumstances surrounding the shooting,” Riddle said. “Hopefully individuals in the neighborhood may have heard or seen something and come forward and let us know.”

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS.
