INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Indianapolis police are investigating for a possible connection between a fatal shooting and a car fire on the north side.

Shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday, police responded to calls of fireworks in the 2100 block of Shelburne Drive, at the Villas at Meridian Hill Apartments. When they arrived, they found a man shot to death in the parking lot. That man has now been identified as a 35-year-old black male, but his name has not been released pending an autopsy.

Also around the same time, police got a call for a vehicle fire at the Viewpoint Apartments off of Westlane Road.

"It's kind of a quiet area to me but yes, it worried me a little bit," said Mattelina Plump, who lives in one of the complexes and called 911 after hearing gunshots.

Police are looking for possible links between the fatal shooting and the vehicle fire because of the close proximity of the two locations. Police say they are also investigating whether the shooting victim had also been set on fire, but they say the coroner's office will need to confirm that.

Police are still looking for suspects and interviewing possible witnesses at both locations.

The coroner says they won’t be able to release the victim’s name until after the autopsy which is scheduled for Monday.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the IMPD Homicide Office at 317-327-3475 or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477 or (TIPS).
