INDIANAPOLIS — One juvenile has been arrested for allegedly shooting a pellet gun at customers near an Aldi on the east side.

Police were dispatched to the 6000 block of E. Washington St. on a report of a person shot at 7:49 p.m. on June 8. Upon arrival, police determined it to be a person injured by a pellet gun.

This marks the fourth pellet gun shooting at this Aldi location in a few days.

“It is definitely concerning. I personally have never felt in danger here at this Aldi,” said shopper Maggie Young. “I think it is something to look out for, I am new to this neighborhood.”

An ALDI spokesperson said that security will be increased at the location in response to these recent incidents. “At ALDI, we are committed to providing our customers with a safe and secure shopping experience,” the statement said. “We are aware of recent unfortunate incidents at our 6691 E. Washington Street location and are cooperating with local authorities as they continue to investigate the matter. We are increasing security on-site as an additional safeguard.”

The most recent incident happened on Thursday night around 8 p.m.

“I usually go shopping during the day just because I do not have my husband with me,” said Young.

IMPD said one male juvenile has been arrested in connection to the Thursday night incident, and the police report states there is another suspect involved. The juvenile was arrested for recklessness and battery with injury.

“It sounds like it’s getting harder and harder to go anywhere these days where there is no act of violence or cruelty or something,” said shopper Susan Siebenthal.
