INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — A person is dead after being struck by a vehicle on the far east side of Indianapolis, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to the call of a pedestrian struck in the area of East Washington Street and Mithoefer Road.

IMPD says the driver of the vehicle remained on the scene.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area, as police say Washington Street will be shut down while authorities continue their investigation.
