(May 21, 2014) – Petco is pulling all China-made dog and cat treats from its shelves.

This comes after the FDA announced some jerky treats, mostly imported from China, have been linked to more than 1,000 dog deaths and three human deaths.

The FDA has been studying the product for years, but they have yet to figure out exactly what ingredient makes the dogs sick.

Petco officials say the uncertainty of the situation outweighs the need for proof.

It is the first national pet retail chain to get rid of the treats.
