Despite a number of costly turnovers in the first half, the undefeated Pike Red Devils held off once beaten Lawrence North Wildcats 85-78 in the Semi-Final round of the Marion County Tournament.
Senior Guard Taishaun Johnson led the way for the Red Devils, contributing 27 points. Future Ball State Cardinal Zavier Turner put the game out of reach with a crucial three pointer that put the Red Devils ahead 79-72 with 1:18 remaining.
“We really felt that we came together as a team” Johnson said. “We fought through a lot of adversity and we knew this would be our biggest challenge so far and I felt like we really came together and showed that we can play with any team in the state.”
With the victory, the Red Devils advance to the Marion County Championship game Saturday night at 7 pm. They will take on Park Tudor led by offensive threat Trevon Bluiett, who recorded 33 points in Park Tudor’s victory against Warren Central 65-57.
“With the tradition of this tournament, we’d love these kids from Pike to grab another one and we certainly want to win every game we play” Head coach Bill Zych said.
