COLUMBUS, Ind. (June 24, 2015)— A 23-year-old Columbus man was arrested after police said he assaulted his grandmother before setting a fire inside her house Monday evening.
Emergency crews were dispatched around 5:47 p.m. to the house in the 4900 block of N. Indianapolis Road in reference to house fire. The victim told authorities her grandson, Michael Sample, battered her and then set two beds on fire before fleeing the area. She also reported Sample disabled her home phone and cell phone when she attempted to call for help.
Authorities were able to apprehend Sample after a short foot pursuit in the area.
Sample faces several charges, including arson, interfering with reporting a crime, resisting law enforcement and battery.
