BLOOMINGTON – A man who arranged to meet a woman and pay for sex says the woman and her boyfriend ending up robbing him. Now, the couple faces charges.
Bloomington police arrested Brandon Shane Grant, 29, on a preliminary robbery charge. Laura Lynn Ruble, 29, was also arrested on preliminary charges of prostitution and possession of marijuana.
Police arrived at University Inn at 2601 N. Walnut St. Monday night in response to a report of a robbery. A man who’d stayed at a nearby Motel 6 told police he’d made arrangements over the phone to meet a woman and pay her for sex. Instead, the man said his money was taken.
The man took police to the room where Grant and Ruble were staying at the University Inn. Ruble told police she’d agreed to have sex with the man for $40. When he showed up, she said she changed her mind and sent a text message to Grant.
The 44-year-old man told police that Grant entered the room and then searched his wallet, taking between $60 and $70. Grant initially denied taking the money, but later admitted he told the man to give him $26.
The witness told police that Grant made him feel threatened.
Police said the couple had more than $360 in their motel room. Ruble said $26 of it belonged to the man, but insisted the rest came from paychecks.
Police seized all of the cash. They also found marijuana in the motel room.
