ELWOOD, Ind.—A Madison County man was arrested after police said he broke into the Happy Burger restaurant and stolen from a children’s charitable donation jar.

Officers responded to the burglary at 7634 W. S.R. 28 on June 7. The restaurant’s owner told authorities someone broke into the building, causing damage to his property, and left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

During the course of the investigation, officers learned of a possible suspect, 20-year-old Christopher Rittenhouse. After questioning him, police said a search warrant was obtained to search Rittenhouse’s residence.

Police said the items reported stolen from Happy Burger were recovered in Rittenhouse’s home.

Rittenhouse was arrested on a charge of burglary and transported to the Madison County Jail.
