INDIANAPOLIS (Jan. 20, 2014) – A homicide investigation is underway after a body was found inside a south side dog shelter.

The owner of All About Dogs Rescue in the 1800 block of South Belmont Avenue found the remains when she arrived to feed her animals. Indianapolis Metropolitan homicide detectives initially said they couldn’t determine if the remains were those of a man or woman.

Monday morning, IMPD said the remains were those of 49-year-old John Sullivan of Indianapolis and called the case a criminal homicide.

On Jan. 16, Indianapolis Animal Care and Control officers inspected the site for code violations and said improvements would be required. The owner told officers that two homeless men and their dog were staying at the shelter. Officers told her the guests would have to leave.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call the IMPD at 317-327-3475. Those wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers of Indiana at 317-262-TIPS (8477).  Callers may also text “INDYCS” plus tip information to 274627 (CRIMES).
