Police have identified a scooter driver who was killed in an accident on the city’s east side Friday.

Ryan Hammons, 33, was traveling westbound on East Washington Street when he crashed into the back of an SUV just before 6 a.m.

Police said they believe the SUV driver slowed down or braked but that Hammons was unable to brake in time.

Hammons was pronounced dead at the scene.

East Washington Street was closed while crews worked to clean up the accident. It has since reopened.

Officials do not believe alcohol was a factor.  The crash remains under investigation.
