Police are trying to figure out how an infant died and was found in a creek. It happened around 11 a.m. Sunday in the 1500 block of Fenwick Avenue on the east side.

A neighbor found the body in a creek behind his house. Police are unable to determine the infant’s age.

“They said it looked like it was a full-term baby,” said Debbie Stinson, who lives along the creek. “You still get a little upset thinking about it. It was right out there and you didn’t know.”

Detectives have been knocking on doors asking neighbors if they’ve seen anything suspicious recently. Some tell Fox 59 it’s been quiet and has always been.

“It’s been so cold, you don’t really see a lot or if anybody’s back there,” said Stinson. “It’s still heartbreaking to realize that nobody knows anything yet. You just pray that [the family gets] peace and somebody gets closure because that’s important.”

The coroner’s office and crime lab technicians are helping in the investigation. If you have any information on this incident, call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
