KOKOMO – Kokomo police arrested the mother of a 4-year-old child after police said she failed to stop her boyfriend from beating him.

Sarah Dorsey, 26, was arrested on charges of child neglect and aiding, including, or causing battery following the June incident. Her boyfriend, Ernest Long, 25, has also been arrested .

Police said Long beat the child over a period of several hours because the boy didn’t want to go to bed. Dorsey told police that she’d asked Long to spank the child. She said she tried to step in about two hours after Long started hitting the 4-year-old boy.

She decided not to seek medical attention for him. The boy went to the hospital after suffering facial bruising, swelling and bleeding.

Long was arrested the morning of the incident and charged with battery and neglect.
