MUNCIE (March 10, 2015) – A Muncie man attacked a friend with an iron skillet after the man insulted his girlfriend, police say.

Norman Barbour, 19, was arrested Sunday on a charge of battery with a deadly weapon. The attack happened on Feb. 16, according to court documents.

The probable cause affidavit said the victim told investigators he was taking a nap at a home in the 900 block of West Powers Street when he woke up to find Barbour “beating him in the face with an iron skillet.”

The man said Barbour struck him repeatedly, causing a gash under his eye and a hand injury when he tried to get Barbour to stop. During a Feb. 16 interview, Barbour said the other man was “running his mouth” and “called his girlfriend a w***.” He said he “blacked out and began attacking” the other man. Barbour also told police he eventually dropped the skillet and began punching the other man because he “was concerned he could really injure” him with the skillet.

According to court documents, the man has hemophilia, a blood clotting disorder that makes it hard to get bleeding under control. He said he’s needed several blood transfusions since the attack.

Barbour was taken to the Delaware County Jail.
