INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Mar. 21, 2014) — A police officer was seriously injured early Friday morning in a single-vehicle accident on I-65, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Sgt. Anthony McLemore, a 14-year veteran of IMPD and its predecessor IPD, was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital where he remains in serious but stable condition, police said.

McLemore was traveling southbound near mile marker 107 when his vehicle crashed into the center median wall.  Police said his driver’s side door was pinched against the wall and they had to remove the doors in order for EMS to safely remove him from his cruiser.

Nobody else was in the vehicle at the time and investigators are not yet sure of what caused the crash.

McLemore was not conscious when officers arrived, further heightening their concern for their colleague.

Police said early indications are that McLemore was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.
