INDIANAPOLIS (June 17, 2014) – An Indianapolis Metropolitan police officer has been placed on administrative duty after a colleague smelled alcohol on him at the IMPD firing range Monday morning.
Derric Murff had a blood alcohol content of 0.01, a certified breath test showed. Sources told FOX59 he was at the range for semi-annual qualification.
IMPD said the incident was being investigated internally and was not a criminal matter. The department released the following statement:
We can confirm there is an internal investigation concerning one of our officers. Yesterday morning, while at the range an officer thought he smelled the odor of alcoholic beverage coming from another officer. The officer in question was pulled off the range and protocols were followed. The officer tested a 0.01 on a certified breath test. The officer has been placed on administrative duty and has no police powers. An internal investigation is underway.
