INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– A police pursuit in Speedway ended in a serious crash on Wednesday afternoon.

Just before noon, officers responded to a shoplifting report at a Kohl’s department store.

They tried to take a 17-year-old female suspect into custody, but she ran to her car, jumped in the driver’s seat, and fled the scene with her 45-year-old mother.

The teen lost control of the red Toyota Camry at West 16th Street and North Tibbs Avenue.

The car crossed over the median and hit a Buick, veered north and struck a utility pole – shearing it in half – struck a speed limit sign, rolled several times and crashed into a black Chevy Impala sitting in the lot of the US Postal Service Rainbow Station.

The suspected shoplifter and her mother were entrapped in the car. First responders extricated them from the vehicle and transported them to the hospital with slight injuries.

A man in the Impala suffered a slight injury.

Speedway police are continuing their investigation and will provide any further information.
