ZIONSVILLE, Ind. – Zionsville police released photos of a vehicle that they say looks similar to the one used by the suspect in a fatal shooting on Wednesday.

The car was described by witnesses as a new model bright white Chevy Impala with dark tinted windows and silver rain guard trim around the windows.

Witnesses say they saw a black male driving a white Chevy Impala fleeing from the 600 block of Terrace Drive where John Clements, 82, was fatally shot outside on his driveway.

So far, Zionsville police have not said if the shooting of Clements is random or if the suspect and victim knew each other in any way, but retired IMPD homicide captain Robert Snow says truly random killings are very unusual.

“99 percent of your cases there’s a motive. Someone will gain by this person’s death. That’s what you have to find as a detective. Who has the strongest motive?” said Snow.

Snow says if police can’t find a motive for the murder, making an arrest will be a challenge.

“If it is truly random case, it’s going to be tough to solve,” said Snow.
