INDIANAPOLIS – Police are searching for the person behind the wheel of a pickup truck that dragged an off-duty Hamilton County police officer for about 15 feet while evading police.

The officer was working security near East 96th Street and Olio Road overnight Monday when he saw a suspicious vehicle that matched the description of a truck sought in connection with a series of burglaries in the Geist area.

The officer told the driver he wanted to run the plates and talk to him as he left the Circle K convenience store.

The driver ignored the officer and got into the truck. As the truck drove off, the officer got his hand stuck in the tailgate and got dragged about 15 feet. He eventually flipped into the air before landing on his stomach.

Police are looking for a white 2003 Ford Ranger. The officer said the driver was about 6 feet tall and 150 pounds. He was wearing a hat.
