INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Oct. 4, 2014)— Police are still searching for a man in connection with a carjacking and three separate shootings on Indianapolis’ northwest side Saturday. His getaway car was found Sunday afternoon on South Holt road.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department identified the suspect as 42-year-old Daniel Brown. He was described to be wearing a black/brown leather jacket and red shorts. Police said he is armed with a handgun.
Officers responded to a shooting at a Ricker’s gas station in the 6000 W. 71st Street around 6 p.m. When officers arrived to the scene, they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
Police said the woman shot was a friend of Brown’s fiance. According to preliminary investigation, Brown was traveling in a vehicle with his fiance, his fiance’s friend and a child. Police said Brown and his fiance were having an argument, when Brown pulled out a gun and shot his fiance’s friend. The victim jumped from the car and ran. Police said Brown chased the victim and continued to fire shots.
A vehicle parked at a gas pump was struck by one of the suspect’s bullet, damaging the engine. The car, which was not involved in the incident, had to be towed from the scene.
Officers said Brown then fled to TownePlace Suites, where he carjacked a man in the parking lot and fled the scene. Brown drove to his fiance’s house in the 1700 block of 72nd Street, where he ditched the stolen vehicle, grabbed his pit bull and got into his Nissan Altima.
Around 6:36 p.m., officers responded to a shooting at Gateway Motel in the 1700 block of Lafayette Road, where a woman had been shot. She was transported to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. A short time later, a man was dropped off at Eskenazi due to gunshot wounds. His exact condition is unknown at this time, but police said he is stable.
Police believe Brown is responsible for all three shootings and do not believe they were random.
SWAT responded to Brown’s fiance’s house, where they found the vehicle carjacked. Police said no one was at the residence. The vehicle was towed from the scene for crime analysis.
“Yeah, we definitely want to find out where he is and get him in custody as soon as possible,” said IMPD Lt. Chris Bailey. “Whatever is going through his head, we don’t know at this point, so the sooner we get him in to custody, the better it is for everybody.”
Police said Brown’s fiance and the child were not injured and are cooperating with the investigation.
