INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.-- Police say a 6-year-old boy was found safe after an SUV was stolen on the near north side.
The car was stolen around 6:20 p.m. near East 30th Street and North Delaware Street. Police say the child's mother went inside her house to get mail. Other children got out of the car and a 6-year-old boy was asleep inside.
Police were searching for a white 2002 Ford Explorer. Initially, police said the vehicle was a Ford Expedition.
The boy was found safe around 8:30 p.m. at the State Fairgrounds near the coliseum. He was dropped off with the SUV. A woman on the scene was able to call his mother.

The suspect fled the scene on foot. Around 10 p.m., police said they have a person of interest detained for questioning.
