MORGAN COUNTY, Ind.– Police arrested a Texas man Thursday morning in Morgan County who was transporting juveniles who did not know him and didn’t have identification.

An Indiana State trooper pulled a 2005 Hundai Elantra over for having an expired registration plate on I-70 near the 55 mile marker.

The trooper noticed signs of possible criminal activity while speaking with the driver, 21-year-old Procopio Torres of Houston, Texas.

Three juvenile passengers had no identification and didn’t know Torres, police said. Torres also did not know them.

Police believe he was driving the juveniles from Houston to New York City for profit. Everyone inside the car was taken into custody and Torres was arrested and taken to the Morgan County Jail on charges of harboring and transporting illegal aliens and operating a vehicle while never licensed.

The juveniles, who range in age from 12-16, were taken into protective custody until relatives could be located.

Police say it’s possible the juveniles were victims of human trafficking, but didn’t release specific information on why they were being transported.
