PENDLETON – Officers at Pendleton Correctional Facility arrested three people, including a minor, accused of trying to get cell phones and marijuana to an inmate by throwing packages over a fence.

Investigators said Markeeta Shaffer, Deuandrae Evans and the juvenile tried to throw the items over the fence and onto the prison’s recreational area.

Those packages contained 19 cell phones, marijuana and tobacco worth an estimated $20,000. A staff member saw the packages go over the fence, according to investigators.

Preliminary charges against the trio include trafficking a controlled substance with an offender, trafficking a cell phone with an offender, possession of more than 30 grams of marijuana and trafficking with an offender.

Shaffer and Evans were taken to the Madison County Jail. The minor was released to the custody of his parents.
