INDIANAPOLIS (Jan. 24, 2016) - On this week's edition of IN Focus, panelists Tim Swarens and Laura Albright discuss this week's top political stories, including the race for President and the future of the ISTEP test in Indiana.

This past week, Gov. Mike Pence has signed two measures that will shield teachers and schools from being penalized for poor student performance during the 2015 ISTEP test.

The House and Senate approved both measures on Thursday.

Pence made the education bills a legislative priority for the current session.

The Senate approved a House measure that prevents teachers from getting their merit pay docked because of low test scores. The House, in turn, passed a Senate bill that would prevent schools from dropping in A-F assessments.

The Indiana Department of Education released statewide ISTEP scores on Jan. 6. Results showed a sharp drop in student performance attributed to more challenging standards on that version of the test.

In the video above, Swarens and Albright also discuss the race for President and the debate over LGBT rights at the Statehouse.
