INDIANAPOLIS (July 6, 2015) – He’s one of the most visible people in the city, and now Rev. Charles Harrison is again thinking about a possible run for mayor, after a mystery petition drive collected enough signatures to land Harrison on this year’s ballot as an independent candidate.

“I will at least reconsider it and give it some prayerful thought,” Harrison told FOX59 on Monday.

Harrison formed an exploratory committee last year then said he wouldn’t run against his friend Olgen Williams, who was briefly a candidate before deciding against a run for mayor.

“There were so many people that kept talking to me after Olgen decided not to run – Democrats, independents, libertarians, Republicans,” said Harrison.

Now they’ve got enough signatures to run- but who was behind that petition drive?

No one knows for sure- and Harrison’s told us he doesn’t know either.

“I started hearing about this movement to get signatures for me to run, it started to get louder and more people started talking to me about it,” said Harrison. “I’m certainly going to reconsider it, certainly I’m humbled by this groundswell of support.”

But could it change the dynamic of the race? With Democrat Joe Hogsett leading the way in fundraising over Republican Chuck Brewer – could a three-way race change the playing field?

“I think there’s a lot of people out there who feel like their voices aren’t being heard,” said Harrison. “There’s a lot of frustration.”

Harrison has until July 15 to make a decision.

We wouldn’t necessarily know who paid for the petition drive until October when campaign finance reports are due.

Campaign officials with the Hogsett campaign had no comment on Harrison’s potential candidacy, and the Brewer campaign did not respond to our request for a comment Monday night.
