INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After a sell-out crowd last year, a wildly popular macaroni and cheese festival returned to Indy on Sunday.

Return of The Mac took place at the Circle City Industrial Complex, giving attendees the chance to taste culinary samplings of mac and cheese from nearly 30 Indy-area restaurants.

The event was split up into two sessions with over 2,000 mac and cheese lovers in attendance.

“The whole thing was just an idea between buddies, we never really planned on it being this big,” said Josh Baker, promoter for MOKB Presents. “We ended up doing three last year which were successful, so we wanted to keep that momentum going again this year.”

Participating restaurants included Mac Genie, ClusterTruck, Wild Cat, Big Poppa’s, Silkelicious, Livery, LouVino, Rooster’s Kitchen, Tulip Tree Creamery, Union Jack Pub, American Culinary Federation, Red Frazier Bison Ranch, Hops and Fire Craft Tap House, Arnie’s restaurant, NADA, just to name a few.

All mac and cheese dishes were judged by profile local chefs and foodies. During the event’s first session, Table by Market District took first place for its “Full Nelson” macaroni, followed by Joella’s Hot Chicken and Hops & Fire.

“I loved trying all the different varieties of mac and cheeses; a lot of different meats, different cheeses and different styles of how they made the mac and cheese,” said attendee, An Nguyen. “It’s been a great experience.”

The winner took home an official prize pack from Central Restaurant Product, a 1-night stay at Story Inn, and the “Golden Noodle” award.

A portion of Return of the Mac proceeds benefit FACE Low-Cost Spay and Neuter Clinic.
