INDIANAPOLIS (June 16, 2015)- The “Summer Servings” program is underway across Marion County.

It’s a chance for kids to get a free nutritious lunch each weekday.

Some sites serve both breakfast and lunch.

There are 230 sites in the Indianapolis area in 2015.

The free meals are for anyone 18 and younger, and pre-registration isn’t required.

Indy Parks and Recreation sees the program as a way to fight childhood hunger while school is out for summer.

“The need for the program is that some children do not have access to healthy nutritional meals during the summer months,” said Maureen Faul, public information officer for the Indy Parks and Recreation Department.

Most of the meal sites will stay open through the end of July, but some will close a couple of weeks earlier.
