SPEEDWAY, Ind. — For the first time ever, there will be a race in the sky at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The Red Bull Air Race opens at IMS this weekend with Qualifying Day on Saturday and Race Day on Sunday. For a look at the schedule, click here.
Master pilots will compete on a three-lap course in the air, trying to get the fastest times without hitting a pylon. The world championship as a whole involves eight separate racing events across four different continents.
IMS officials are expecting about 40,000 people and say spectators should enter through Gate 9, which is behind Turn 4 at the track.
