INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.— Crews with the Department of Public Works (DPW) were on the east side Monday morning to repair a hole in the street.
DPW officials said the damage to the street was not considered to be a pothole or sinkhole and was caused by a water main break.
The reported street collapse occurred in the area of English Avenue and Woods Crossing. A vehicle got stuck in the hole and was removed.
English Avenue is closed in both directions between Franklin Road and Woods Crossing Drive until about 2 p.m. Tuesday. DPW said 65 homes are without water due to the break.
DPW officials said main breaks are caused by aging infrastructure. They said the main being repaired Monday is 42 years old.
