Residence fire started in bedroom closet near southwest side of Indy

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Fire crews were called to the scene of a working residence fire near the southwest side of Indy early this morning.

The fire started around 3:30 a.m. Monday morning near I-70 and S Harding St.

The homeowner heard the smoke detectors and then alerted her son to the situation.

Upon investigation the son found smoke and fire in a bedroom closet and attempted to extinguish it on his own, but he was unsuccessful in bringing the fire under control.

Fire Crews arrived and quickly brought the fire under control with no injuries.

IFD would like to remind everyone to never attempt to extinguish a fire on your own; just leave the residence immediately and contact 911.
