INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- A south side resident is alarmed by the size of the potholes at his apartment complex.
Veteran Steve Trim said he deals with "huge" potholes every time he drives in and out of his home, which sits near the back of the Crossroads at Southgreen apartments.
"It's like a minefield trying to maneuver," Trim said.
There's only one way in and out of the complex and towards the back is an area where the pavement is completely gone, which Trim refers to as "the crater."
"They say speed limit 10, even going 10 miles an hour you’re still going to do some damage to your car," Trim said.
FOX59 saw exactly what Trim was talking about as we drove the road ourselves. Some areas have been visibly patched over multiple times and photos provided by Trim show that the large crater-like area in the back often floods and then ices over in freezing weather.
In an email, a representative with Hartford Rentals provided the following response to Trim's concerns:
"Crossroads at SouthGreen Apartments has just undergone a major renovation including new kitchens, flooring, paint, and appliances. We have identified areas of landscape and grounds that will receive capital improvements in the spring as the repairs are weather dependent. The damage to to parking lot was due to a water line leak that has been repaired and the asphalt is scheduled to be repaired in the spring. Management has informed all of the residents to date and they are aware of the issue. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Management participates in annual pothole repair every year as typical for the geographic area of the country."
Trim told FOX59 that he believes a full re-paving may be necessary and hopes to see changes made as soon as possible.
"They put band-aids on it by filling them up, but those band-aids are starting to wear off and we’re back to square one," Trim said.
FOX59 confirmed with city officials that the road is on private property, so it is the responsibility of property owners to fill potholes and make any additional repairs.
