INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (October 9, 2015) – The holiday hiring blitz is in full swing in central Indiana. Many companies are looking to hire thousands of employees in preparation for the busy season.

“There are people that will be vying for same jobs as you,” said Joe Frank, from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. “But, there is going to be more opportunity than there have been in previous years. “

Frank said retailers started the job hiring process early. Plus, current conditions in Indiana help attract employers.

“Indiana is in a great economic situation,” Frank said. “We have the lowest unemployment  rate in nearly a decade. We’ve grown 122,000 jobs in last two years.  And, we’re seeing the largest growth in labor force in entire Midwest in last few years.”

Companies like GameStop are hiring more seasonal employees than last year. A spokesperson said they hope to add 28,000 people to their staff. About 150 of those new employees will be placed at stores in the Indianapolis area.

“Companies are being more proactive about finding seasonal help,” Frank said. “FedEx is looking for winter sorters. Amazon is looking for part-time workers already.”
